St Andrews CathedralTWT SITEES OF RELIGIOUS INTEREST ST ANDREWS, FIFE The town of St Andrews has an important place in the history of Christianity within Scotland stretching back to the late Middle Ages when local churches obtained what were believed to be relics of the Apostle Andrew. It came to be regarded as the religious capital of Scotland and the Cathedral, on which work began in around 1160 was the largest building in mediaeval Scotland.
